Valparaiso Skatepark is Valparaiso's newest park project! This 25,000+ square foot design has all the elements users will be excited about - mini ramp, bowl, street features, beginners area, and more.
The project team is finalizing construction documents and preparing to go to bid in January of 2023. Once bids are awarded and the conditions are favorable for construction, ground breaking will take place in early Spring. The projections are calling for a 8-10 month construction timeframe putting the ribbon cutting ceremony in late Fall of 2023.
The park is being designed to a $1.2M budget with the ability to expand the footprint and features if additional funding becomes available. With that strategy in mind, The project team is working hard to raise an additional $379,000 to reach a $1.7M goal in order to build a larger and more exciting park.
Who is part of the planning process of the skatepark? A task force is in place with local skate enthusiasts as well as key players in making this skatepark a reality - Dug Ketterman of DugOut Design Studio (& former Valparaiso Viking), Jeff Zielinski of Driftwood Collective, and Matt Keiser of Abonmarche.
Where will the skatepark be located?
After multiple sites were considered and a thorough analysis was completed, Fairgrounds Park was selected as the future site of the Valparaiso Skatepark.
Will this skatepark be for more than just skateboarders? Yes! We will cater to all sports including: skateboard, bike, scooter and skates.
When will this skatepark be complete? Our goal is to have construction documents complete by the end of 2022. With the proper funding we hope to have construction in progress by spring of 2023.
