2. For several years, Valpo Parks has actively pursued expanding the community's indoor sports, recreation, and enrichment opportunities. A significant step forward was the Valparaiso Redevelopment Commission's recent acquisition of the 16-acre former McGill Factory site at 909 Lafayette Street, which includes a 225,000-square-foot industrial building.

   Driven by the City's history of revitalization and the Park’s desire to deliver a comprehensive indoor recreation solution, Valpo Parks is conducting a thorough due diligence review of the former McGill Factory to assess its suitability for future programming. Potential uses include senior programming, youth enrichment, children's play areas, and versatile rental spaces. 

   In December 2025, the City of Valparaiso entered into an agreement to begin drawing up conceptual plans for features and resources that could take place in the Valpo REC. In early 2026, various levels of community engagement will be held to solidify ideas for both programming and facility amenities.
